Leprosy Centre Visit - 8/02/14

On the 8th of February, Leo Club of SMK Damansara Utama's Leos, Leo Advisor and Faculty Advisor paid a visit to the leprosy centre. They departed from school at 8.30a.m. and started their visit at 9a.m. The visit lasted for two hours and the Leos departed from the centre at 11a.m. It was a joyful occasion! Leos brought food to be donated to them and they handed each patient one mandarin orange. The Leos also socialized with them. Despite some having a language barrier with a few patients there, the leos still tried their very best to ensure that the patients had a memorable day. The Leos also sang chinese songs for the patients. This visit has taught the Leos to appreciate everything that they have now may it be small or big and to strive in helping those who are not as fortunate. May the patients at the leprosy centre continue living in good spirits and good health!

January updates!

Its already February.. whoah how did time fly by so fast? Anyways in the first month of this year, our club has conducted  3 general meetings.

8/1/14 - we introduced ourselves and got to know each other a little more by playing some simple games and also briefing the members about the activities that will be held throughout the year.

15/1/14 - we played even more games at different stations around the school. Definitely a fun experience for all of us and it helped us get to know each other even more.

22/1/14 - the wall painting project was continued! Last year, we started this project behind the canteen wall at school. A bunch of members helped paint it to look brand new but only half of the wall was painted. We continued painting the other half at this meeting. Since the wall looks pretty plain, we may continue painting a mural on the wall hopefully soon. This project will be continued later and any details will be further announced.

Now for the upcoming projects; as said above, we may continue painting a mural on the same wall behind our canteen. We will also be visiting the Leprosy Centre on the 8th of February. This is something we did last year too! If you're interested, check out our facebook group for details. In February, another project that will be carried out is a Valentine's Day project. Also our IR Day will be held in April!

If you are interested in any of these projects (and you should be), keep your eyes peeled for our facebook group, page and twitter account too. More details & updates will be announced later on. More pictures coming soon too! :)

YES Camp . Day 4. Finale

Day 4

The last day. This time, we didn't start our day with  a morning exercise. We had breakfast and went to the hall right after. We had a final "drop me a note" session and they summarized the 10 keys. Then , facilitator Maggie reminisced the past 3 days with each everyone's eyes shut.

When we opened our eyes, we found a lovely card and an envelope in front of us and were instructed to write a letter to ourselves-which will be mailed to our respective address in a month's time-about what we hope to have achieved by then since this camp.

Our next activity was a clearing up session consisting of 3 parts. The first part was a session where each group stood in a circle together and apologized to one another if anybody made a mistake towards anyone else.

The second part was where everyone sat in a circle in their respective groups and passed a candle around. They pass the candle to a member whom they wish to give a word of encouragement to.

And the third part was a literal clearing up session, where we started cleaning up the hall !

And then came the closing ceremony where prize and cert presentations where given out.

We had lunch, packed up and boarded the bus afterwards and that concludes YES Camp 2013!!

All in all, YES Camp was a fantastic experience. Not only did we meet many people but the 10 keys we learnt brought value to the different aspects of our lives. We learnt to appreciate, to take responsibility, to be passionate, to live in the present, to be flexible, to look at the positive side of failure, to cooperate well with other, to communicate well and further more. One of the major characteristics we learnt and practiced throughout camp was TEAMWORK. Campers showed an immense amount of cooperation that you would've thought it remarkable . YES Camp has strengthen bonds between different Leo clubs from all over. Last but not least, YES Camp has brought out the Leo spirit in everyone .

May everyone continue to strive as a proud Leo ! roar roar roar!!

YES Camp . Day 3

As usual, we began our day with a refreshing morning exercise. Then we were given a couple of hours to prepare for out team skit presentation ! After lunch, we began our outdoor activites ! An obstacle course !

And then we had a tug of war competition!

After washing up and having our dinner, it was time for the team presentation! Everyone did well especially since we were given such a short period of time to come up with a skit.

After that, we had our own creation and had a "model" to represent each group to celebrate YES Camp's  10th year anniversary !

Later on, they commenced footloose!

And that was the end of our 3rd day!

HEYY. So for this year's YES Camp, Leo Jazlynn Wong and Leo Bei Er from Leo club of SMK Damansara Utama went for the camp and it was such an amazing camp! It was very well conducted, there was never a moment with nothing to do. So a BIG thanks and applause to the organizers of the camp and of course the facilitators! Other than that, everyone at camp was so sporting and the food was good too! We had 6 meals a day! hahah. The activities were very good as well, a lot of team work required and that definitely trained our cooperation. Let's start with day one!

Day 1
